Setup Exchange 2004

Recommended Link: How to Set Up Entourage 2004 with WebDav over SSL for Exchange Server Connections

  • Entourage 2004 attempts to automatically detect the proper settings to access the LDAP server (great new feature!!!)
  • Entourage 2004 uses WebDAV to send and receive Exchange mail. This is a change from Entourage 10.1.4 which used IMAP for receiving and SMTP for sending mail. This eliminates 2 server entries in an Entourage Exchange account, simplifying setup.
  • You can import your old 10.1.4 account, but you'll still have to re-download all your mail. So if it doesn't work you can to toss it and set it up again in 11 without losing much.
  • Entourage supports Exchange 2003's form-based authentication. Make sure to select the SSL checkbox in Entourage if your server requires it.
  • Entourage supports the form-based authentication introduced in Exchange 2003. To use it, make sure that Entourage is pointing to your front-end server and that the SSL checkbox is checked in the Advanced tab of the account in Entourage. This will allow road warriors to get their Exchange data in Entourage from the road without tunneling into their network first.
  • Account setup has been improved in various ways.
    • Automatic Account setup...we try harder: if Entourage doesn't get any usable data back from the DNS server the OS gives us, it tries using the domain that the user enters for their Exchange account. First, make sure that you have entered search domains correctly in the OS networking preference panel. If the that doesn't work, try entering something like this into the domain as the exchange account: mydoamain.mycompany.com
    • If Automatic Account setup fails, the Account Setup Assistant provides a simplified UI where the user can enter the information Entourage could not detect.
    • The Account Setup Assistant offers then to verify these settings
    • Entourage now supports scenarios where the User ID does not match the e-mail address
    • Entourage now support virtual server scenarios where the path to the user's data is not http://server/exchange/user
    • The user can actually enter the full path to their data in the Exchange server field of the account dialog (e.g. http://server/somethingelse/someothername)
