YouTalk mailing list for discussion of Entourage & Outlook for Mac

What is YouTalk?

YouTalk is a free mailing list for those who prefer discussing Entourage and Outlook using an E-mail list instead of (or in addition to) the forums. Participants in this list are Entourage and Outlook users helping other users.

This mailing list is not maintained nor affiliated with Microsoft and is therefore not a means of communicating with Microsoft to send them feedback or bug reports. To do that you can select Send Feedback using the Help menu in any Office application.

We encourage you, however, to discuss your problems, suggest ideas for improvement and answer a question or two if you have a solution. If you're shy then feel free to just read and learn.

Why offer a list? Often readers on the Entourage Help Blog are using the comments section to ask for help. Comments do not provide the proper setting for help. This list is one way to find help and give the community a way to help with a solution. Continue to use the comments to add your remarks on the articles.

If you just want quick answers, look for answers in a forum. If you want more of a community atmosphere, join a list. What better way to learn about Entourage and Outlook than with an email client?

Other options to get help

How does YouTalk work?

E-mail messages will be delivered to your Inbox as they are sent to the YouTalk list or, if you prefer, grouped together and sent once per day.

To participate, simply subscribe to the list and then send a message with your question or comment. You can also Reply to the list. It's that easy.

How do I subscribe to YouTalk?

Visit this page and enter your name and E-mail address:

Manage your subscription: If you ever want to subscribe, unsubscribe or change your options (e.g., switch to or from digest mode, change your password, etc.), click here.

This is a public discussion list but a valid E-mail address is required to participate. This is to keep out spammers and to promote an environment where friendly discussion is possible. Your address will not be used for any purpose other than to receive or post to this list. In addition, messages will be posted in the archives section for searching. Web Archives will obscure your email address so they're not trivially recognizable as email addresses. The intention is to prevent the addresses from being snarfed up by automated web scanners for use by spammers.

Contact the List Mom: If you have any problems with the list or another list member, contact the list mom(s). If you would like to add an additional email address and have it set to send but not receive, contact the list mom.

List Rules

Treat your fellow list members, and the list admin, with respect. Assume the best, not the worst. Always treat others courteously. Please, do not use vulgarities nor offensive taglines.

Use good etiquette when posting and replying:

Subjects: Create a subject that defines your problem. Subjects like "help" and "newbie" can be overlooked. Many users will scan the list for subjects where they might be able to help out and will overlook your problem. It's OK to add "I'm a newbie" in the message, but it's not necessary for the subject. If it's a long subject, make sure the important words come first. Entourage truncates long subjects in the list view and the key word won't be seen if it is at the end.

Quoting: Please quote only the relevant portion of messages you respond to and please quote some of the original message so others know which part of the thread (discussion) you are responding to.

Posting: We prefer plain text messages. This way everyone gets to read the messages in their preferred font and size. HTML messages are useful for posting AppleScript code. Keep your HTML simple in respect for those that pay for each download.

Attachments: Don't send attachments. If you would like to post a screenshot, send a URL. Use a free service like ImageShack.

Don'ts

1) Don't hijack a thread: Nothing is more annoying than having someone hijack a discussion and turn it in a completely different direction. This is not fair to the original poster who gets buried under a maze of topics under the same subject. It also makes searching for an answer more difficult. Please start a new message with your subject.

2) Don't reply to a message then change the subject. This action can destroy threading in some email clients. Create a new Message and enter your subject.

3) Don't cross post. Posting on several lists or newsgroups can cause confusion. Members will not know when another has answered your question. Give your source time to reply before asking in another group.

4) No spamming and no soliciting allowed!

5) If you set up an Out of Office reply and include this list, you will be suspended. You will have to contact the listmom to activate your membership.
